Just received an important email from family
member Fred Thomas, III. A 'must read' for all.
"Believe it or not – 45 years goes by fast, as today
is the anniversary of the Sixteenth Street Baptist Church Bombing of
the 4 little girls killed during Sunday school services, as part of terror
and retaliation for “Blacks” simply wanting to register to vote. The Voting
Rights Act was finally passed and some pay homage to this history by being
active participants in Voting, while others dismiss it as “Not important” or
think “It’s was a black thing” or “Oh that was back then” or “It was a Southern
Thing” when the truth of the matter is ALL AMERICANS have benefited from the
little girls' sacrifice as well as the countless others who paid the ultimate
price just for wanting to VOTE! Many of you may have not been born or perhaps
this piece of history skipped past you, but as we near a historic election
I would encourage you to make sure everyone you know who is eligible and
WHO MAY NOT BE REGISTERED simply
take time to participate in a process where at a time, as indicated…….not far
ago, IT WAS AGAINST THE LAW TO VOICE YOUR OPINION BY VOTING. In CA
the Voter Application MUST BE POSTMARKED BY 10/20 – BUT YOU CAN EVEN DO IT
ONLINE!!!!!!!
It’s not about Obama or McCain, or Biden or Palin, as most
of you know who I’m supporting, but the important issue is understanding the
process and simply respecting those who paid a dear price so you could participate.
This may be like “preaching to the choir” but perhaps you know of someone who
wants to participate that is not registered and doesn’t realize who easy it
is for them make a stand for themselves."

Most people are
talking about this day because it
marks the anniversary of MLK's assassination. Most of the older
members of the family I'm sure have marked this day with a "I
remember when I found out"....kind of like Kennedy.
While those moments are historically significant, the date is an
anniversary for us as well. On this day, Evelyn Johnson-Thomas was
born to Theodore & Jenny.
Having 2 children makes me appreciate more how much effort was put
into raising me and her contributions for the success of this
family as all of our ancestors have done.
As much as I try, my mere words could not do her justice. Most of
you have a point of reference, some of you only have stories to go
by. She used to tell me stories about her childhood and I
especially looked forward to visits from our relatives because it
was like traveling to another world, the stories, the characters,
the history.
I just wanted to share this special day with you & hope that
you'll be as honored as I am. For you, on this day, I pray for
increase, that He would enlarge your territory and Bless you
abundantly, that you know that you are a blessing to those with
whom you share your light and beauty.
I cannot fathom how I've been blessed with her, with you, the
newest additions of my family.
I just know that I am.
I am grateful & humble before you, my blessings & His
grace.

For those that don't
keep track and don't visit
our site very often, Elidee Johnson-Lewis, our family Matriarch
celebrated her 102nd birthday on March 26. Howard and I spoke to
her on the phone and other than not being able to do as much as
she'd like, she's doing fine and her mind is as sharp as ever. Luv
you Aunt Dee Dee.

This notice is coming
quite late, but I wanted to
inform the family that I am a newlywed. My soldier SFC Stanley
Wilson returned from Iraq in September. I refused to plan anything
without him, so upon his return we planned our wedding. We were
married November 9, 2007. Happy New Year's to the Johnson
Family and descents. My love to you all. (Pictures have been placed
in the Photo Album).
