Yes, we've got another new Johnson. I'll make it short and sweet 'cause he's my grandson and I don't want anyone accusing me of 'hoggin' up the site (although I'm so happy and proud, I could). Please go meet your new relative.

WEST COAST NEWS
June 13, 2007

I have some great news to share with the family. My daughter Fallon (my youngest daughter who will be 14 in October)) has been honored nationally by her honor's instructor as an All American Scholar Award Winner. Teachers throughout the nation make the honor. Fallon is a member of a select group of students who excel in all academic areas (she has been in the gifted program since the 3rd grade, now going to the 8th grade). Even more importantly she qualifies as a candidate who can apply for one of 254 scholarship grants of up to $10,000 awarded each year by the nonprofit USAA (United States Achievement Academy) Scholarship Foundation (this was all taken from the letter she rec'd from the founder). All students in grades 6-12 may apply for scholarships and the year in school (grade level) is not a determining factor. We incur no financial obligation of any kind in accepting the award. We have reserved our personal copy of the All American Scholar Awards Yearbook featuring Fallon's accomplishments. Fallon wants to be a physician in Pediatrics. I am so very proud of her. We really have some bright folks in our family!!!

Also, Auntie Samantha asked me to send you an email with a few highlights. Her eldest grandson Marcel Carter, graduated with honors from Southwest College in Los Angeles. He applied for and has accepted employment with the FAA (Federal Aviation Administration) in Tucson, AZ with a report date of July 2007. He is expecting his first child early in the fall.........Auntie Sam's 1st great grandchild, Lydia Ruth's 1st grandchild.

Auntie Samantha's granddaughter Simone Lemelle graduated with honors (Valedictorian) from St. Mary's Catholic Academy and received an academic scholarship (full ride) to Cal-Poly Pomona. This is Auntie Sam's eldest daughter Freda Joyce's only child.

HEART WARMING MESSAGE FROM MICHAEL JOHNSON
February 28, 2007

Hi Ted, Just wanted to share our story and our sincerity for the Katrina victims.

Michael Johnson

 Project Katrina at Pensacola High

Phuong Thach, a senior in the International Baccalaureate Program at Pensacola High School, created a service project titled 'Project Katrina" to assist in the Hurricane Katrina relief effort.  This service project has evolved into a school-wide effort over the past two years and consists of 25 members, and is sponsored by Jan Sales, a teacher in the Mathematics Department of the IB Program.

Project Katrina has created and participated in various activities.  In the past, the students have traveled to Biloxi, Mississippi twice and have worked at the principal disaster relief distribution center and at the Salvation Army warehouse.  In the case of the distribution center, it could not have opened without the assistance of the Project Katrina members on that particular Saturday due to the overwhelming abundance of relief needed.  The students assisted with cleaning up debris, packing boxes, gift wrapping, babysitting, distributing supplies, and interacting with Mississippi citizens that were affected by the hurricane.

Project Katrina went to Pass Christian, Mississippi on February 23, 2007 to present a $1,000 check to Pass Christian Elementary School.  The money was raised by the Project Katrina members over the past two years through various fund-raising activities including selling Magnolia pins that the students hand-crafted themselves.

The students also worked with the elementary school students to beautify their campus by cleaning up and gardening.  Currently, Pass Christian Elementary and Middle Schools are both located on the grounds of DeLisle Elementary School in order to share the cafeteria.  Both Pass Christian Elementary and Middle School are operating completely out of portables built off the ground with boardwalks connecting them together.

Project Katrina has also contributed to their local Pensacola community through various activities.  The students have held clothing and blanket drives in association with the Navy Marine Corps Relief Society and the Toy for Tots drive with the Marine Corps Reserves.  The members have also worked with Habitat for Humanity in several projects.

For more information contact Jan Sales, Pensacola High School, 595-1500.
