UPDATE FROM MICHAEL
November 5, 2006

Michael Johnson, currently serving as Assistant Principal of Escambia High School, Pensacola, Florida, has received his official certificate as a High School Principal.

This process closes a required two-year training program for Principals, which includes intensive training, classes, and a professional portfolio.  Michael now becomes eligible for a high school principalship anywhere within the state of Florida.

Escambia High School is one of the oldest high schools in Florida, established in the 1950’s, and is the proud home of Emmitt Smith,  pro football’s premier running back!!  It is also the second largest school in Pensacola, with enrollment above 1850 students.

Escambia High School is also the home of one of the best bands in the nation.  The “Pride” will be showcased in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, in Chicago, and will be televised on national television.

Michael is the son of Tom A. (deceased) and Inell T. Johnson, Pensacola, Florida.

Michael’s son Stephen (Sergeant, US Army), is on orders to Germany for three years.  We wish him safe travel and our prayers go with him.  He is a Combat Medic and has served in Iraq prior to this deployment.  He is a 1999 graduate of W.J. Woodham High School.

FAMILY INFORMATION
September 1, 2006
Reggie Thomas

Dearest Family,
I would like to celebrate the success of the family at my restaurant/deli. I want to start slow, so here goes: If anyone went to college and played any type of sports or performed in the band, please send your signed jersey/shirt/hat/etc along with photo & info; name/dates/significance. I will display at the shop, just so people can know.
I know Michael Johnson (MJ) just came out with a CD. Mike sent me a signed ALBUM cover. Maybe someone could contact The GAME; send me a record or something. Blake, jersey son, today. And if any of you older than Methusula retiree wannabees out there can remember, I want to have a jersey made for Sevier, where my dad went to school. I know the colors were blue & orange, not sure on his # or style. Also, he went to Grambling, not sure if he played ball. Anyway, get back at me.

Thanks,

Reggie

2006 FAMILY PICNIC PICTURES
August 21, 2006

I missed it!! Certainly hope you didn't. Cousin Brenda sent in the first pictures. Got an email from Cousin Lydia also. Here's the lowdown: Louis and Bree Johnson were the hosts, and they set the bar high for future family picnics. They had an event planner assisting right up to the start time. At the entrance to the park there was a huge laminated copy of the original invitation that went out to all family members (that we could contact; also posted on this website). They had 3 bar-b-que pits set up, three banquet tables for the food that was brought in by 3 caterers plus the food that was contributed by family members. Ribs, pulled pork, fried chicken, bar-b-qued chicken, links, hot dogs, hamburgers, potato salad, pasta salad, fruit salad, 5 huge watermelons, home made rolls, 2 huge peach cobblers, 2 huge apple cobblers, assorted frosted cupcakes (from Aunt Jimmie's Oven), lemon cake and all manner of drinks (including the spiked sangria hidden under one of the tables).

For the kids there was a Jumpy Thing, an artist for face painting, an artist for charcoal portraits and cards, dominos for both kids and adults. It was a GRAND AFFAIR. Kudos to LOUIS AND BREE. Here's some pictures.

OF INTEREST TO THOSE IN LOUISIANA

As an incentive for Louisiana students to stay in state for college and to lure back those displaced by last year's hurricane, the state is offering special scholarships aimed at replenishing its higher-education rosters.

UPDATE ON BREE'S SURGERY
July 18, 2006

A sincere thank you goes out to all the family for their prayers and good wishes for Bree Johnson (Louis III's wife). Her surgery last Friday was a rousing success and she's recuperating at home.

FOR YOUR INFORMATION
July 17, 2006

Just received some useful information from Cousin Mary Thigpen. On July 29, all cell phone numbers will be released to telemarketing firms. You will start to receive calls and you will be charged for these calls.  To prevent this, call the following number from your cell phone: 888-382-1222.  It is the National DO NOT CALL LIST. It blocks your number for 5 years. More info at www.donotcall.gov.

PRAYER REQUEST
July 12, 2006

We've just got the news that Bree, Louis Johnson III's wife is scheduled for serious surgery this Friday, July 14th.  Bree is a gentle, genuine, steadfast, loving mother, wife, and friend who, in the past, has always asked for prayers for others in the family and extended family.  She has never failed to step forward when it comes to family matters. Let's put our collective prayers together that she comes through this just fine.

NOTICE OF CLARIFICATION
July 11, 2006
Webmasters

It has been brought to my attention that some family members have confused the "Family Picnic" listed below (scheduled for Aug. 13th) as a "Family Reunion". The Picnic is not considered our Reunion. Last year it was called a 'Family Cook-Off'. Simply put, it's just what it says it is, a family picnic.

YOU REALLY DON'T WANT TO MISS THIS!!
The now 'ANNUAL' Johnson Family Picnic is coming Sunday, August 13th in Los Angeles. Please print this form and RSVP as early as possible to let Louis Johnson III and wife Bree get an idea of how many plan to attend. It's worth the trip just to get a taste of some JOHNSON home cooking that will blow you away. By the way, the link will open using either Microsoft Word or Wordpad.

HOWARD AND RENIE ON THE MOVE
June 30, 2006
Webmasters

We just returned from a 10 day jaunt from Cerritos, CA to Crossville, TN moving the last of Howard's furniture. He and wife, Renie, are on their way to Tennessee now.

NOTE: You'll notice several names on the Family Tree page that are not linked to a personal page. With very few exceptions, it's because we don't have a photo. We'd prefer new and recent individual photos rather than trying to crop one from another picture (keep in mind that I lost several pictures when I had to reinstall Windows). Also, there are still those that don't have computer access. So, if you've got a photo of some of the missing family members, please send it in.

Okay ya'll....just wanted to let you know that we're back at it and we'll keep buggin' everyone until we reach our goal of MAXIMUM PARTICIPATION.

TRANSFER FOR MICHAEL
June 12, 2006
Michael Johnson

After working as Assistant Principal of West Florida High School of Advanced Technology from 2004-2006, now Michael Johnson is being transferred to Escambia High School. This will mark his third administrative move, beginning at Booker T. Washington High School as an Administrative Dean, then to West Florida High School as Assistant Principal, and soon to become an Escambia Gator. His new job is part of an 1800+ student population, with a 3.2 Million dollar construction project underway. Both schools received B's (B.T. Washington High School) and A's (West Florida High School). Currently, public schools in Escambia county have over 43 African Americans with 4.0 or higher Grade Point Averages!! We would like to see more HBCU's come to Pensacola to recruit our scholars and athletes.

Also, one of Michael's AAU Boys Basketball teams will be going to Arkansas for the National Championship in July. Look for Team Northwest Florida!! Go Sharks!!

To ensure that things work correctly on our site, it is imperative that your browser configuration is correct.  Click on "Tools", "Pop-up Blocker", "Pop-up Blocker settings", then add "http://theferridayjohnsons.com" (no quotation marks) to the list of allowed sites for pop-ups. We know they're annoying and we try to keep them to a minimum. Nevertheless, there may be times when we use them.

FORM MESSAGE

We are reflecting with Joy on the beautiful sharing we had in Natchez and Ferriday at the Johnson Reunion-March, 05. While most of us wondered around the old home place, Nan and Donna talked with Willard as he sat in the truck. They remembered that as we talked this week. I particularly remember when Willard, Louis Jr., and the crew were little fellows and at home or our house in Monroe or at Momma Jennie's place, Willard would often get out of sight. He would be found hiding behind a door or under a bed, being so shy and I think rather sensitive. He could draw pictures too. To the entire immediate family of my first cousin Willard, I thank God for loaning us such a unique person as he. Our love and prayers come to you as sincerely as possible. In Christ, Leslie & the Jones, Jean & family, Betty & family, Linda & family.

What a Friend we have in JESUS. ALL OUR SINS AND GRIEF'S TO BEAR. WHAT A PRIVILEGE TO CARRY. Everything to God in PRAYER.    Love to everyone who reads these words. I thank God for lives spared and hope that we move on in His name to the next plans He has for us. We in Shreveport are happy to report that Tiffany, Leslie Faye, Chloe' and nine members of her friends family from Port Sulfur and another made it to Shreveport all before the flood waters came in. If any of the family comes here we will share  whatever we need to. Tell cousin Paul I've met Leneir and we hope to see him soon. With two jobs and a girl friend in a new place, you don't have much extra time. SMILE!!!

MESSAGE FROM BOBBY
September 1, 2005

We are okay in Pensacola at Michaels home for now.  We are in need but do not want anyone to send anything that they can't afford.  Whatever is sent will be paid back as soon as we can get back to normal.  Any help is greatly appreciated.  Your thoughts and prayers are a blessing.

BJ,  my two stepsons, Ryan and Brandon, are with me.  Aaron, my son, is OK at school in Texas,  Brittany had already started back at LSU so she is OK too.  Baton Rouge is a refuge for all New Orleanians for now.  BJ and I will try to secure a temporary apartment there as soon as we can until we can figure out something else while rebuilding our home, and so I can work again. That may be sometime in the next two months.  I hope.  God bless you all and thank you for your love and help.

Bobby Johnson

EMAIL MESSAGE
August 31, 2005

Greetings to all of you!

This is such a wonderful tool of communication!  We communicated in the past (I'm Aunt Inell's neice who lives in Atlanta) - Sharon.  I'm also asking all of your prayers for my sister (Mavis), her daughter (Angela), my brother (Oliver) and his family, and many cousins and friends.  They also lived New Orleans East and lost their homes and all of their belongings.  They are in Natchez, Mississippi, at my parents' home.  (Mavis told me that Paul Johnson was also in Natchez at our cousin Dorothy Matthews' home).

Thanks again for sending me your emails.
